Communities in CP benefit from joint advocacy program

Police at the Tulagi Police Station recently supported the Central Provincial Government Children’s Division during a joint advocacy tour to communities and schools in Florida Islands, Ngella.

The joint advocacy program had the following objectives:
• Raise the awareness of communities on issues such as domestic violence and child abuse;
• Inform communities on the current legislation namely the Family Protection Act and the Child and Family Welfare Act that protects the rights of women, children and families
• Create and strengthen partnership with community stakeholders in addressing social issues affecting communities; and
• Collect views and concerns of communities regarding children, women and family issues and inform provincial stakeholders.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Central Province, Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “Topics covered during the awareness program include domestic violence, child abuse, the Family Welfare Act and the Family Protection Act.”

“As a result of the program, the communities are aware of social issues affecting communities and how to address them, people now understand how service providers can support victims and survivors of Sexual Gender Based Violence and partnerships were created with the communities,” says PPC Leta

The program was held from 17 - 23 March 2018.
