RSIPF conduct Coast Watch Exercise in Western Province

Communities in the Western Province will benefit from the Coast Watch Exercise to be conducted by officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) together with members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) from 19 May – 4 June 2018 at Gizo and in the Shortland Islands.

Supervising Assistant Commissioner (AC) Operations, Chief Superintendent Stanley Riolo explains: “The Exercise, which will involve police officers from Honiara and the Western Province, will focus on the humanitarian response during a disaster event and how the different agencies will work together to ensure a quicker response in the time of a disaster.”

Chief Superintendent Riolo adds: “The Exercise will also be involved in the destruction of a 500-pound bomb at Tomoa Village on Fauro Island in the Shortlands.

“We expect the Exercise to enhance the RSIPF’s ability to safely and effectively conduct outer island law enforcement,” says AC Riolo.

He says, “People in communities in Western Province should not be alarmed when they see members of the team involved in the Exercise in their villages instead people should assist and cooperate with them.”
