The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) Deputy Commissioner Operations Juanita Matanga has met with the Council of Chiefs on Mono Island in the Western Province on 25 August 2020 to discuss the issue of access to islands for police operations at the western border during the COVID-19 State of Public Emergency.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) appeals to members of the public to report to their nearest police station any officer who demands an on-the-spot fine for any alleged offences.

“While I have not received an official complaint, it has come to my attention that there are allegations of police officers issuing on-the-spot fines to members of the public for alleged traffic offences. I want to advise members of the public there is no such thing as an on-the-spot fine under the laws of the Solomon Islands,” says RSIPF Commissioner, Mostyn Mangau.

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Central Province have received operational equipment worth $30,000.00 from the Central Provincial Government during a ceremony at Tulagi on 21 August 2020.
The equipment included four supper torchlights, a generator, ten VHF radios, a base radio and four loud hailers.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at the National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) visited and conducted awareness talk at Burns creek Adventist High School and primary school and Tuvaruhu School in Honiara on 21 August 2020.

The visit is part of the continue engagement by the NCPD team to the communities and schools in and around Honiara City to rebuilt the trust and relationship with the community and working in partnership with the Police.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force at Auki Police Station in Malaita Province have successfully mediated a land dispute at Sinaraqu, in East Kwaio on 18 August 2020.

The issue of the land dispute has been outstanding for some time during which properties belonging to both of the disputing tribes have been damaged. It is believed that both parties have no legal court documents to produce before police on primary ownership of the disputed land and its boundary.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Gizo in the Western Province are investigating the discovery of the body of a 17-year-old female who believed to have hanged herself in an incomplete house at the Gizo Top Hill on 20 August 2020.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province Mathias Lenialu says, “When police officers arrived at the scene, the body of the deceased was hanging in a vertical position from the ceiling of the building with a lavalava.”

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) has released confiscated COVID-19 medical equipment supplied by the Republic of China on Taiwan to the Malaita Provincial Government equipment following advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).

The RSIPF and the Customs Department seized the equipment last month following a formal complaint from the Office of the Attorney General about the suspicious nature of the consignment.
