Police investigate collision of two vehicles in Honiara

Officers from the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) Kukum Traffic Centre are investigating a collision between two vehicles on the Kukum Highway at the road junction leading up to the Florence Young School in East Honiara on 5 February 2019.

Director of the RSIPF Traffic Department, Superintendent Fredrick Satu says, “My officers attended a report of the collision of the two vehicles. One of the driver was tested with random breath testing (RBT) at the spot but was negative while the other driver allegedly escaped police after being taken for medical attention.”

Police investigate fatal logging accident in Guadalcanal Province

Police in Guadalcanal is investigating a fatal logging accident involving two men at the Vavale Logging Camp in East Central Guadalcanal on 2 February 2019.

The fatal accident involved a Malaysian national who worked as a bulldozer operator and a local Solomon Islander who worked as a crew at the logging camp.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixson Manetoga says, “The local male person is from Toanaboko Village.”

RSIPF-UN training and screening underway

About forty officers from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are currently undergoing training and screening at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara to be eligible for United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Missions deployment.

RSIPF Deputy Commissioner (DC) for National Security and Operation Support, Juanita Matanga says, “About forty RSIPF officers across the country have been undergoing training and screening to be eligible for United Nations Peacekeeping Missions deployment this year 2019.”

RSIPF advertise its positions for current serving officers

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is currently advertising internally for officers to fill up positions ranging from Sergeant to Assistant Commissioner within the Force.

“The call for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) in the positions started mid-December 2018 and will close on 15 February 2019,” says Deputy Director RSIPF-HR, Inspector Flotilda Sabino.

Police in Choiseul arrest eight people for various offences

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Choiseul Province made a total of eight arrests during the period 17 – 30 January 2019 for various offences.

The various offences include one person for intimidation on 17 January 2019, five people for restriction on making liquor from 19-25 January 2019, one for simple larceny (stealing of general property) on 23 January 2019, and one for wilful and unlawful damage of property on 28 January 2019.

Police in Honiara recover fake foreign notes

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Honiara Central Police Station on 29 January 2019 recovered an alleged five hundred Euro fake Note and an alleged United States fifty dollar fake Note.

“The fake Notes were recovered by shift officers from Honiara Central Police Station and they were worth around SBD$6,500.00 (for the Euro Note) and around SBD$400.00 (for the USD Note),” says Commissioner Matthew Varley of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) when addressing local media.

Police aware of alleged fatal crocodile attack of young female in Western Province

Police is aware of a report alleging a young female had been attacked by a crocodile at a river on North New Georgia Island in Western Province on 23 January 2019.

Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, Matthew Varley says, “Police became aware of the report on 28 January 2019 and officers in Western Province are trying to communicate with leaders on the island to make a formal request for police to go and hunt for crocodiles at the said river.”

Police arrest 39 drivers in Honiara during recent traffic ops

Police in Honiara have arrested 39 vehicle drivers following a traffic operation targeting drink driving from 23-30 January 2019.

Ten drivers were arrested for careless driving, nine for driving an unlicensed motor vehicle, 14 for driving with the presence of alcohol in a person’s blood, one for driving without a driver’s license, one for driving without a valid driving license, three drivers for permitting unlicensed motor vehicle, and one permitting unlicensed driver.

RSIPF warn communities of bomb blasting in Alligator Creek

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team will conduct a live demolition of bombs at Hells Point, in the Alligator Creek East of Honiara on Thursday 31 January 2019.

Supervising Officer In-charge (OIC) of EOD, Senior Sergeant Peter Ririvere says, “The Hells Point Demolition Range in Central Guadalcanal area will be active from 8am to 12 midday, 31 January 2019.”

Police arrest ten drivers in Honiara during weekend traffic ops

Police in Honiara have arrested ten vehicle drivers over the weekend following a traffic operation targeting drink driving.

Director of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Traffic Department at the Kukum Traffic Centre in east Honiara, Superintendent Fredrick Satu says, “On the night of 26 January 2019 my officers were involved in a random breath testing (RBT) operation along the Kukum High Way.”
