The Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, Matthew Varley and members of his Executive team today (12 December 2018) met with a senior United States delegation of civilian and military officials led by the US Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs, the Hon. Randall Schriver at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) calls for more discussions on issues affecting youth in the country as another suicide incident involving a 20-year-old male person is reported to have happened at the Sun Valley area East of Honiara on 10 December 2018.

Police at the Henderson Police Station also attended to an attempted suicide incident involving another youth also on the same day at the Zome Enterprises Yard at Henderson.

Twenty seven Close Personal Protection (CPP) officers in the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) graduated after a-five-week Close Personnel Protection (CPP) Training program at Rove Police Headquarters on 7 December 2018.

Eight officers of the RSIPF Police Response Team (PRT) officers also graduated making a total participation of 35 officers.

There were nine female officers in the group who also graduate with certificate on CPP Basic Training.

Police in Guadalcanal Police are investigating the alleged rape of a young girl on a date in October 2018 at Alligator Creek East of Honiara.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Chief Superintendent Evelyn Thugea says, “In October the victim was accompanied by her two cousin brothers to go fishing at Alligator Creek.”

PPC Thugea explains: “As they were still fishing, a man appeared holding a bush knife, and approached the victim and invited her to go to another creek which he said had more fish. The victim then followed the man.”

The mobility capacity of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has been boosted when it officially received 16 new motor cycles from the Government of the Republic of China (ROC) of Taiwan during a ceremony at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara today 10 December 2018.

The assistance comes under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on police cooperation signed between the governments of ROC and Solomon Islands last year.

The Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu thanked residents of Noro and Munda Townships as well as surrounding villages for the peaceful 35th Anniversary celebrations of the Province’s Second Appointed Day last week.

“I want to thank all the community leaders including church leaders in Noro and Munda women representatives, youth groups and members of the Western Provincial Government for working together with the Police in ensuring everyone enjoyed the celebrations,” says PPC Lenialu.

Officers of the National Community Policing Department in the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) and other stakeholders including the Family Support Centre are continuing their awareness at markets and other venues in Honiara as part of the 16 Days of Activism to end violence against women and girls.

At an awareness held at the White River Market in West Honiara on 4 December 2018, a drama group from the Family Support Centre put on a skit showing one of the types of domestic abuse which is psychological abuse.
