The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force has lost another of its officers following the death of Police Sergeant Jimmy Misimake Mao who passed away at the Kilu’ufi Hospital near Auki on the night of Tuesday 27 November after a short illness.

The late Sergeant Misimake had served in the RSIPF for 27 years. He was Officer-In-Charge of the Maritime Unit in Malaita Province when he passed away.

Police at Tulagi in Central Province is investigating into the alleged suicide of a woman at the Dota Community High School on Small Gela Island on 26 November 2018.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Maelasi says, “The woman who is from Makira and Gela, is married with two children and was residing at the School with her husband who is a teacher at Dota Community High School.”

Forensics officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have returned to Honiara after being deployed to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG) for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting from 5 to 20 November 2018.

The team, which included a female and two male officers, travelled to Port Moresby a week before the meeting to join the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC). They were accompanied by an Australian Federal Police Forensics Advisor under the Solomon Islands Police Development Program.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) National Community Policing Department together with the Family Support Center today (28 November 2018) conducted an awareness talk at Burns Creek, East Honiara as part of the 16-days activism against violence against women and girls.

During the awareness talk a group from the Family Support Centre performed a drama about family violence along the theme of this year’s campaign, “Herem Vois Blong Me - Stop Violence against Women and Girls”.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has made many significant steps to improve the way it responds and manages gender based violence incidents in Solomon Islands.

“Although there is much work to do since the passage of the Family Protection Act in 2014, the RSIPF has made many significant steps to improve the way the Force responds and manages gender based violence incidents during the past 12 months,” says RSIPF Commissioner Matthew Varley.

Police at Malu’u in Malaita Province have arrested and charged three suspects for alleged assault causing bodily harm and other offences at Gwaunatolo Community High School in North East Malaita on 17 November 2018.

The three suspects allegedly stole a 65-watts solar panel, a dry battery cell, an inverter, and five tins of paint. The suspects also allegedly damaged school property including six chairs, a wooden drum, six desks and some bricks.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Commissioner Matthew Varley today officially opened a Pacific regional two-day course on introduction to cybercrime investigation for police officers at the Rove Police Headquarters, Honiara. This course will be held from 26-27 November 2018.

The 18 participants at the course are from the Federated State of Micronesia, Guam, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Marshall Islands and Solomon Islands. Ten of the participants are officers of the RSIPF.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will conduct awareness programs in communities in and around Honiara and in the provinces to bring to the forefront the increasing violence against women and girls as part of the international 16 Days of Activism from 25 November to 10 December 2018.

The theme for this year is: “Herem Vois Blong Mi – Stop Violence Against Women and Girls”.
