Four people are confirmed dead at sea while travelling from Toa to Burungia Village in the Central Province yesterday (15 August 2018) in a motorised boat.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “The four people died when their boat sank in rough seas when they were travelling from Toa to Burungia Village.”
PPC Leta says “At least 12 people are confirmed to have survived the sea tragedy. Among the survivors are children and adults.”
Police officers in Gizo, Western Province have arrested and charged a 15-year-old juvenile in relation to an alleged rape incident at Nusa Baruku Island on 13 August 2018.
“The victim is a 4-year-old girl and the incident occurred at Nusa Baruku, an island opposite Gizo Town on 13 July 2018 (Monday) at around 3pm,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander, Western Province, Superintendent Cedar Nevol.
A man has been fined $400.00 by the Honiara Central Magistrates Court yesterday (14 August 2018) after being found guilty of drunk and disorderly in a public place.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Honiara Central Police Station, Chief Superintendent Alfred Uiga says, “The defendant was charged for idle and disorderly contrary to Section 175 sub section (d) and an additional charge of drunk and incapable contrary to Section 179 of the Penal Code.
Police in Guadalcanal Province have arrested and charged two men aged 18 and 29 following a wounding incident at an area close to Bea Village on North East Guadalcanal on 13 August 2018.
It is alleged the victim was attacked by a group of people with a knife resulting in the man sustaining injuries to the left side of his face and under his left arm.
Prior to the attack on the victim, he allegedly attacked a young boy. The young boy later ran to Bea Village and informed some of his relatives after which they located the victim and allegedly attacked him.
Police in the Central Province have completed high visibility patrols in 11 villages and schools on Savo Island throughout the past week.
The villages and schools included Reko, Kuila, Pagopago, Kalaka School, Paposi School Paibeta School, Bokilo School, Panueli, Bonala, Monago and Kaugele Village.
Police in Tulagi Central Province (CP) successfully mediated a suspected sorcery case at Belaga Village, North East Small Gela on 12 August 2018.
Operation Manager at the Tulagi Police Station Inspector John Sara says, “It is alleged that the family of a 51-year-old man from Belaga Village claimed that the man died of black magic. The matter between the parties was tense hence it needed to be promptly addressed to avoid any escalation.”
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Isabel Province have been kept busy during the past month of July 2018 with policing duties in that province.

Police in Tulagi Central Province have arrested six male youth on the night of 12 August 2018 for the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman.
It is alleged that between 1.00am and 4.00 am on 26 July 2018 the victim from Tambariki Village and her cousin sister went to buy rolls of tobacco when the incident occurred at Salavo Village, Sand-fly area.
Police at Taro in Choiseul Province have arrested 15 people in relation to the Voruvoru wounding incident in Choiseul Province on 28 July 2018.
Operation Manager Choiseul Province, Senior Sergeant(S/Sgt) Rolland Lapo says, “A total of 15 suspects were arrested in relation to their alleged involvement in the Voruvoru Village incident on 28 July 2018.”
S/Sgt Lapo says, “This incident occurred after a fight broke out between a local person at the Village and an Asian employed at a nearby Paopao logging camp.”
Police in the Central Province have completed high visibility patrols in 34 villages throughout the Province during the past week.
