Residents of Tasahe in West Honiara warned to stay clear of UXO cordoned area

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will be conducting a Render Safe Procedure (RSP) in the Solomon Power (SIEA) residential area at Tasahe in West Honiara between 8:00am to 2:00pm tomorrow 1 August 2018.

Officer In-Charge of the EOD Team, Inspector Clifford Tunuki says, “This task is in relation to a report of unexploded ordnance (UXO) that has been found recently by members of the community living there. The UXO is fitted with a Mechanical Time Fuse and is unsafe to move.”

About 700 people from the Haleta District in East Big Ngella in the Central Province have benefited from an awareness talk conducted by police from Tulagi during the Festival Day at Hagalu Village on 24 July 2018.

The Festival Day was hosted by the Hagalu community to mark their Church Saints Day.

Police investigate alleged rape of two girls in Choiseul

Police at Taro in Choiseul Province are investigating the alleged rape of two girls on 9 July 2018 at Vanga Village in South Choiseul.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Vincent Eria says, “The alleged rape incident happened when the two victims were returning in the early evening from a fundraising event. On their way back the three men pulled both females into the bush and a suspect allegedly raped one of the victims.”

Traffic offences in Honiara decrease over a week

Traffic offences recorded in Honiara has decreased to 21 cases during the week of 20 to 26 July 2018.

This is compared to 77 cases during the previous week.

“It’s good to see that traffic incidences decreased from the previous week recording a decrease of 56 cases,” says Director National Traffic Department, Inspector Brian Surimalefo.

“Apart from other offences careless driving seems to be an issue here. For this reporting week we have charged eight offenders for careless driving,” says Inspector Surimalefo.

Police investigate alleged rape incident at Sasamunga in Choiseul Province

Police at Taro in Choiseul Province are investigating the alleged rape of a 19-year-old girl in a plantation at Sasamunga Village in South Choiseul on 10 July 2018.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Vincent Eria says, “The alleged rape incident occurred when the victim and another girl were on their way back to their small settlement from the main village.”

PPC Eria adds, “It was alleged that the adult suspect struggled with the victim but another girl who accompanied the victim pulled from the suspect.”

Police in Central Province remand 18 year old male

Police in the Central Province have arrested and charged an 18-year old male from Louna Village in the Russell Islands on allegations of house break-in.

He has been remanded in custody since 28 July 2018.

Officer Commanding Station Yandina Police, Staff Sergeant Thomas Fakatonu says, “It is alleged that in the early hours of 2 February 2018 the suspect broke into a shop at Louna Village by removing a door masonite and allegedly stole cash of $6,000.00. The owners were not at home at the time of the alleged incident.”

Burglars sentenced to more than 2 years in jail

Two youth in their 20’s have been sentenced to serve a jail term of two years and three months by the Honiara Central Magistrates Court after being found guilty on a charge of burglary (stealing) contrary to Section 299, Subsection A of the Penal Code on 26 July 2018.

The incident occurred on the night of 20 July 2018 at the City Motel, in Central Honiara whilst the complainant who was a guest at the Motel was asleep in his room.

Police patrol 17 villages in Central Province

Police in the Central Province have completed high visibility patrols to 17 villages in the Province during this past week.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “The villages patrolled during the week are Haleta, Aviavi, Bokolonga, Siarana, Koilovala, Ghumba, Vuturua, Ghole, Tavulea, Salesapa, Una, Somata, Nukufero, Karumuloun, Marulaon and Niumugava.”

Trio sentenced to imprisonment for causing disturbance in Honiara

Three male persons have been sentenced to four months in prison after they were found guilty by the Honiara Central Magistrates court on 23 July 2018 for causing disturbances at Lengakiki in West Honiara on 22 July 2018.

The trio was playing very loud music from the booth of their car causing disturbances to the nearby residents that night.

“The defendants were warned twice by a member of the community to turn their music down, but did not comply,” says Provincial Police Commander Honiara City, Chief Superintendent Alfred Uiga.

RSIPF conduct community awareness in Western

Police at Gizo in the Western Province have conducted community awareness talks to about 250 people at the Sambora and Varesi villages, on Vella La Vella from 24 to 25 July 2018.

During the two days of talks, the Community Policing Team from Gizo Police Station presented topics including:
• What is law, three sources of law which is divine law, customary law and constitution law;
• Marijuana and its side effects and its offence; and
• Kwaso-homebrew, its effects and its offence
