Supervising Police Commissioner, Juanita Matanga urges people of Solomon Islands to watch the FIFA World Cup currently underway in Russia with a spirit of sportsmanship.
The comment comes after it was alleged that the recent death of a 31-year-old man in Central Honiara was in connection with arguments over the FIFA World Cup.
“Whilst we are watching this particular FIFA World Cup, it’s good that we watch the games in the spirit of sportsmanship,” says Supervising Police Commissioner, Juanita Matanga.

The Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Matthew Varley has this week joined over 100 police chiefs from around the world for talks at the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit held in New York, United States of America 20 – 21 June 2018.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is deploying three more officers to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, South Sudan in Africa. They will depart on Saturday 23 June 2018.

They are Inspector Agnes Ape, Sergeant Charles Alisineuli and Sergeant Andrea Kierre. This contingent will be headed by Inspector Agnes Ape.

“This mission marks another great achievement for Solomon Islands, more particularly the RSIPF,” says Supervising Police Commissioner, Juanita Matanga.

“RSIPF has come through a lot. And through the assistance of RAMSI we are now a capable police organisation. I want people to know that RSIPF is capable to perform duties internationally just like other police forces in the region,” says Sergeant Andrea Kierre.

Officers of the National Criminal Investigations Department (NCID) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested four suspects on 15 June 2018 in relation to an alleged vehicle robbery incident on Rennell Island in the Rennell and Bellona Province

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Crime and Intelligence, Ian Vaevaso says, “The arrest happened after a vehicle robbery incident occurred on West Rennell in February this year. It is alleged that the four suspects detained a dump truck owned by the World Link Mining Company.”

Police at Tulagi in Central Province have arrested and charged two male juveniles on 18 June 2018 for alleged unlawful wounding following a stabbing incident at Burungia Village on Small Ngella.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “It was alleged that on 20 May 2018 the alleged suspects had an argument with the victim whom they claimed had an affair with their sister. It was alleged the victim was then stabbed with a scissor that landed below the victim’s right armpit.”

“Becoming a police officer was my child hood dream. I never gave up on that dream until I am now retiring from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force,” says outgoing Assistant Commissioner, National Capital and Crime Prevention, Madam Gwen Ratu.

From Malaita and Guadalcanal origin, she was recruited into the RSIPF back in October 1984 at the age of 23. She was one of only three females in the class of 60.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) in Honiara are currently investigating the death of a 60-year-old male foreign national at the Mendana Hotel.

“The deceased was found dead in his hotel room this morning 18 June 2018,” says Assistance Commissioner Crime and Intelligence, Ian Vaevaso.

He adds: “Investigations into the matter are ongoing and I want to call on anybody with information to contact your nearest Police station.”

Officers at the Henderson Police Station, Guadalcanal Province have arrested a suspect following a stabbing incident at the Guluvoa main road, Marasa, in the Weather coast of Guadalcanal on 2 June 2018.

“The 14-year-old juvenile suspect was arrested by police on 16 June 2018 at his home village and is in Police custody to appear before the Magistrate’s court,” says Provincial Police Commander, Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixon Manetoga.

He adds: “The suspect is charged with one count of attempted murder and will appear before the court for a remand application.”

Police in Honiara have arrested a suspect in relation to the death of a 31-year-old male person after being found with a wound to his body outside his rented house in the Koloale area of Central Honiara on 17 June 2018.

The Serious Crime Team within the National Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) has taken over the investigation into the incident.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Crime and Intelligence, Ian Vaevaso says, “The alleged incident happened in the early morning of Sunday 17 June 2018.”
