“Becoming a police officer was my child hood dream. I never gave up on that dream until I am now retiring from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force,” says outgoing Assistant Commissioner, National Capital and Crime Prevention, Madam Gwen Ratu.

From Malaita and Guadalcanal origin, she was recruited into the RSIPF back in October 1984 at the age of 23. She was one of only three females in the class of 60.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) cautions road users including pedestrians and vehicle drivers in Honiara to think about their safety while they watch the FIFA World Cup matches on large screens erected along some parts of the capital’s main road.

“We appreciate the community service that some businesses are providing by making the soccer world cup available to the public in Honiara but I want to caution people to think after their safety while watching these big screens on the side of the road,” says RSIPF Commissioner, Matthew Varley.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has thanked the Government of Australia for the continuing assistance under the Australian Defence Cooperation Program to the maintenance of security in Solomon Islands.

RSIPF Commissioner, Matthew Varley expressed the sentiments when he and members of his Executive met with the Australian Minister for Defence, Senator Marise Payne at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara on 14 June 2018.

The Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Chief Superintendent Lenialu encourages the traveling public in Western Province to plan properly before travelling at sea during the current bad weather situation affecting that Province.

“I want to remind the people throughout Western Province to think safety first before travelling especially during this bad weather that we are currently experiencing,” says PPC Lenialu.

Investigators of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) now have a better understanding of how to deal with cybercrime offences following the completion of a Cybercrime Workshop at the Rove Headquarters on 13 June 2018.
The Workshop started from 11 – 13 June, and was attended by 25 police investigators from Honiara City, Guadalcanal Province and the Rove Police Headquarters.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team will conduct a live demolition of bombs at Hells Point, in the Alligator Creek East of Honiara on Thursday 14 June 2018.

Officer In-charge (OIC) of EOD, Inspector Clifford Tunuki says, “The Hells Point Demolition Range in Central Guadalcanal area will be active from 8am to 4pm on 14 June 2018.”

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Maritime Department acknowledges the professional relationship it has with local company Y Sato Marine’s especially the training in outboard motor (OBM) maintenance and repair skills to police officers.

RSIPF Maritime Director Chief Superintendent Charles Fox Sau is pleased at how the training workshop is being delivered and the knowledge being obtained by RSIPF officers.

Police at Tulagi in the Central Province have arrested and charged a 30-year-old man from Ghumba Village in Small Ngella for alleged two counts of domestic violence and serious assault.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “The alleged suspect will appear before court on 16 July 2018 in Tulagi.”

Superintendent Leta says, “It is alleged that on 10 June 2018 the suspect told his 8-year-old son to have his bath but his son refused. As a result the suspect was angry so he kicked and punched his son.”

Officers at the Henderson Police Station, Guadalcanal Province are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred at the Guluvoa main road, Marasa, in the Weather coast of Guadalcanal on 2 June 2018.

“It was alleged that the victim and the suspect were on their way to the beach when the victim made some jokes. The suspect then struggled with the victim and then he stabbed his stomach with a small kitchen knife. The victim sustained an injury to his stomach,” says Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixon Manetoga.

Officers at the Henderson Police Station in Guadalcanal Province are investigating an attempted suicide matter that occurred at Barana, North West Guadalcanal on 7 June 2018.

“It was alleged that the mother took her two daughters with her into their house and lit a fire,” says Provincial Police Commander Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixon Manetoga.

“On seeing the house on fire the neighbours quickly managed to put out the fire and rescued them out of the building. It was then that they contacted Police to assist them,” says PPC Manetoga.
