Police in Makira-Ulawa Province are investigating two separate allegations of house burning, on 7 and 13 January 2018 at Taranirawo and Wakana Settlements, in West Wainoni area of the Province.
It is alleged that on 7 January 2018, a 26-year-old male set fire to his house at Taranirawo settlement after arguing with and attacking his wife.
It is further alleged that on 13 January 2018, a 40-year-old male set fire to his family house at Wakana settlement after a row with his brothers.
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has recorded 83 human deaths from 2016 – 2017 for the entire country.
RSIPF Assistant Commissioner (AC), Ian Vaevaso says, “The figure for deaths categorised as suspicious homicide and culpable driving causing death for year 2016 is 14 cases and for year 2017 is 18.”
Police officers in Gizo, Western Province have successfully rescued three fishermen south west of Vella la Vella Island after they ran out of fuel during a fishing trip.
This came after officers in Gizo received a report from a relative of the trio that they were floating between Kolombangara Island and a fishing rafter.
Investigators from the National Criminal Investigations Department and Naha Police CID are enquiring into the death of a male person in his 50’s at the Guadalcanal Province Warehouse in Ranadi, East Honiara on 24 January 2018.
“Information reaching Police say the deceased left his home to the said warehouse on the morning of 24 January 2018. He did not return until his body was found inside the warehouse in the afternoon,” says Assistant Commissioner Crime, Ian Vaevaso.
The issue of managing the population of crocodiles which continue to be a threat to our communities is a priority for the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
Supervising Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Operation, Chief Superintendent, Stanley Riolo says, “The RSIPF is aware of the threat crocodiles pose to members of our communities who reside alongside rivers, streams, creeks, lakes and coastal areas in some parts of the country and will try to assist get rid of these reptiles.”
Victims of domestic violence in Honiara recently benefited from a donation of $1,000 Australian dollars to the Seif Ples in Honiara by an Australian school girl.
During an earlier visit to Seif Ples, Ms Isabella Tanti, the daughter of the current Commander of the Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) visited the staff at Seif Ples and was so taken with the work of the staff at the Centre she was committed to assist them.
Police officers in Guadalcanal Province have arrested a 23-year-old male who is the suspect in an alleged rape committed almost a year ago in the Marau area of the Province.
Acting Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent, Nixson Manetoga says, “The suspect was arrested on 19 January 2018 and has been remanded at the Rove Correctional Service facility in Honiara.”
Police at Kirakira in the Makira Ulawa Province have successfully mediated a long standing land issue between a logging company and landowners during a meeting held on 23 January at the Kirakira.
The long standing land issue involves logging company currently conducting logging operations on disputed customary land in Central Makira.

Police in the Western Province have commended relatives of a victim in a recent assault incident for not taking the law into their own hands but allowing the matter to go before the court.
Police from the Naha Police Station in East Honiara are investigating the death of a male person at a factory in the Ranadi area of Honiara today (22 January).
It is alleged the deceased died inside the factory. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the person.
