Police at Marau in the Guadalcanal Province have apprehended a suspect for wounding a 40-year-old male at One Village, in the Hatare area of Marau Sound over the weekend.
Police allege that the suspect did strike the victim with an axe on the left side of his head and as a result he fell to the ground.
Police in Auki, Malaita Province today (15 January) witnessed a reconciliation ceremony between two parties on Manaoba Island, in North Malaita.
Provincial Police Commander, Malaita Province Superintendent Timothy Apaesi says, “The ceremony was to reconcile two parties who were involved in a row last month over the location of a B-Mobile tower on the Island.”
PPC Apaesi says, “It is both parties that requested police to witness the reconciliation ceremony.”
Chiefs, a former Member of Parliament and church leaders were also present during the reconciliation ceremony.
Police officers in Tulagi, Central Islands Province (CIP) organized a Commissioning Service on 10 January 2018 before starting their programs for the year.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander, CIP, Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “The Commissioning Service was to strengthen our officers’ spiritual life before we actually start implementing our program of action for this year 2018.”
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) announces the promotion of 27 of its officers to Sergeant and Staff Sergeant ranks after the opportunities for promotion were advertised within the Force last year.
The promotions include four female officers, two to senior sergeant rank and two to sergeant rank. Of the male officers, 10 have been promoted to Senior Sergeant and 13 to Sergeant.
The 27 newly promoted officers will now start their six-month trial after which they will be confirmed in the positions.
Police officers in Taro, Choiseul Province are currently investigating a traffic accident at Bukukuana logging camp, in North-West Choiseul, Choiseul Province on 9 January 2018.
The vehicle involved in the accident is owned by New Venture Limited, a logging company operating at Bukukuana and was driven by an overseas employee of the Company when the accident happened.
Taro Police received a report on the accident on the same day and attended the scene with a doctor from Taro Hospital and started initial enquiries.
Police in Malu’u, in North Malaita have arrested two male suspects following a fight at Adau Village, East Mbaelelea, in Malaita Province on 8 December 2018.
The two accused, aged 22 and 24, were arrested on 9 December 2018 and were both charged for unlawful wounding.
“It is being alleged that a fight broke out and the two accused allegedly wounded the victim with a bush knife during which he sustained serious injuries,” says Provincial Police Commander, Malaita Province, Superintendent Timothy Apaesi.
Police in Gizo are investigating the death of a 48-year-old male after he was hit by the branch of a tree at Maravari Village, Vella La Vella, Western Province, on 8 January 2018.
It was alleged that the deceased was chopping a tree when it fell down on another nearby tree down during which a branch fell and hit the head of the deceased.
Provincial Police Commander, Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “The deceased was assisted by his work mates to the Village but was pronounced dead by a nurse at the local clinic.”
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) strongly warn bus owners and drivers in Honiara to abide by the law following an illegal protest through the city today at the recent changes instituted by the Honiara City Council to the bus routes.
At a meeting with the protesting bus owners and drivers at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara, Supervising Deputy Commissioner, Operations, Ms Gwen Ratu told them, “It was illegal for you to involve in such a protest as you did not get the necessary permit to stage such an activity.”

Detectives from the Sexual Assault Team, in Honiara have arrested and charged a 44 year old man on 2 January 2018 for alleged indecently assaulting an 8-year- old child at Kola Ridge, East Honiara.
It is alleged the victim was asleep on the night of 31 December 2017 at home; Kola Ridge when the accused went into her room and indecently assaulted the victim.
Supervising Officer In-charge (OIC) of the Sexual Assault Team, Detective Sergeant Brian Kanai says, “It is sad to note that the alleged suspect is well known to the victim as a relative, or a person of trust.”
