Police in Western Province today (05 January 2018) investigating a death of man in his 20’s, allegedly attacked by a crocodile just outside Barasipo Village about 20 metres outside from the shore, of Vonavona Lagoon in the Western Province.

It is alleged the man went on a diving trip with another man in the evening of yesterday (04/01/2018) and was attacked by a reptile while diving.

A 41 year-old man was arrested by police in Gizo, Western Province on 02 January 2018 for alleged Attempted Murder and Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm allegations.

It was alleged the man committed the incidents against two men the day before his arrest at Vanga Rural Training Centre (RTC), Kolobangara Island, in the Western Province.

Lata Police investigate an alleged sexual assault incident occurred in Temotu Province on the 1 January 2018.

It was alleged that a male had sexually assaulted a victim and was arrested by Lata police.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) Provincial Joseph Manelugu says, “The Victim is currently under medical treatment at Lata Hospital and her condition is stable.”
“May I appeal to my good people in Temotu province to work together with police during investigation of this incident,” says AC Manelugu.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) plan first official visit to communities around Makira Ulawa Province which will begin on the 6 January 2018.

The PPC is expected to meet with the community leaders and members of the communities to discuss matters related to law and order.

Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “Community members play an actively important role in assisting the police, fostering for a safer community.”

PPC Peter Sitai adds, “I am looking forward in meeting community leaders in Makira-Ulawa during this year (2018) first tour.”

A 34 year-old man is facing two counts for reckless and dangerous driving; and driving under the influence of alcohol regarding an alleged vehicle accident on 01 January 2018 along Gizo Road, in front of Nelos Vilas Rest House KHZ area, in the Western Province .

It is alleged the man was driving a vehicle at very high speed heading northerly direction from top hill area headed to Gizo township area with two passengers on board the vehicle when the vehicle over-turned.

Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a 65-year-old male person at Bonege beach area in North West Guadalcanal on the night of 01 January 2018.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Crime, Ian Vaevaso says, “The accident occurred last night between 8:30pm to 9:00pm.”

AC Vaevaso says, “The deceased was alleged to be a pedestrian attempting to cross the road when the incident occurred.”

“The body of the deceased was found death in the middle of the road after the accident occurred,” says AC Crime, Mr Vaevaso.

The Guadalcanal Provincial Police during the weekend, (Saturday 30 December & Sunday 31 December) and recorded 405 traffic checks.

Guadalcanal Provincial Police Operational Commander (Ops Commander), Superintendent John Koloni says, “On 30 December 2017, my Traffic officers attended two separate incidents one at Cross Road area where a car collided with a pole in which the driver was assisted by police to hospital; and the other was at Henderson Main Road where a car collided with another car from behind.”

Police in Tulagi, Central Province has arrested a 24 year-old male on 28 December 2017 for alleged setting fire to his brother’s kitchen house at Pihaga settlement via Haroro village, in Big Ngella Central Province.

It was alleged on the 27th of December 2017, the man who was disappointed with his parent for not feeding him after a long day celebration, set fire to the kitchen.

The kitchen which was made of local materials was only partly burned due to the quick response of some relatives who assisted in putting out the fire.

Police in Kirakira have arrested three teenagers, two female and one male, for illegal brewing of homebrew in Ugi Island, Makira Ulawa Province on 29 December 2017.

The trio have been arrested and charge for the alleged offence of restriction of brewing liquor. The suspects have been bailed to appear before Kirakira Magistrates Court on January 2018.

This was reported to police by the community and they arrested and their products are confiscated.

Police in Tetere arrested a male suspect for unlawful damage at Jericho village, Reko area, North East Guadalcanal on 27 December 2017.

Provincial Police Commander, Guadalcanal Police Superintendent Nixson Manetoga says, “The same suspect was also arrested and charge for the burning down of a dwelling house.”

Superintendent Manetoga says, “The suspect was appeared in Honiara Central Magistrate Court on the 28 December 2017 and will re-appear back for his trail on the 11 January 2018.”
