Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) including the executive, ranks and files and the current group of new recruits in Honiara today, 7 December 2017 attended an interfaith and thanks giving service at the Archdiocese of Honiara Holy Cross Cathedral.

This is the last RSIPF interfaith church service to be held this year giving the opportunity for the officers to reflect on this year’s achievements and challenges.

“I came into the force because I wanted a job that can challenge me, and I wanted to do a job worthwhile in helping others to make a difference and provide a better life for my fellow citizens,” says Sergeant Ronald Chite of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.

Thirty-three-year old Sergeant Chite is from Western and Choiseul provinces and has served in the RSIPF for 10 years.

Police in Guadalcanal Province (GP) appeals to communities in the Province to stay calm and have safe celebrations during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities.

Three fishermen from Lilisiana Village near Auki in the Malaita Province have been found safe after drifting at sea since Saturday 2 December when their outboard motor engine broke down while fishing at Ramos Island between Ngella and North Malaita.

“The three fishermen drifted after their engine broke down and were not found until the afternoon of Monday 4 December, when another boat from Lilisiana Village which participated in the search located them at the Anuha Island on north Big Ngella,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander, Central Islands Province, Hugo Maelasi.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Malaita Province appeals to people in the province not to take the law into their own hands but allow their community leaders or the police should they have any issues to resolve.

“I am making this call after several incidences happened in the province during the past week including an unlawful wounding case, assault causing bodily harm, a case of grievous bodily harm, a wilful and unlawful damage case and several cases of domestic violence,” says the Provincial Police Commander, Malaita Province, Superintendent, Timothy Apaesi.

The Fire and Rescue Services of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) today, witnessed the official hand over of three fire trucks donated by the New South Wales Fire and Rescue Service of Australia.

The Commissioner of the Fire and Rescue Services, New South Wales, Paul Baxter officially handed over the trucks to the Solomon Islands Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Hon. Moses Garu during a ceremony at the RSIPF Central Fire Station in Honiara.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force appeals to drivers and pedestrians in Honiara to be patient as traffic in the capital city will be affected by the 2018 Commonwealth Games Baton Relay which will start in the afternoon of 5 November 2017 and will go on until 7 November.

The Commonwealth Games Baton Relay is held leading up to every Commonwealth Games with the baton visiting member countries of the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth Games will be held in the Gold Coast, Australia, 4 – 15 April next year.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force in the Western Province have called for calm during celebrations to mark the 34th anniversary of the Province’s 2nd Appointed Day which will be held 7 December 2017 at Bekabeka, Gatokae Island, in the Marovo Lagoon.

It is anticipated that important guests representing the National and Provincial Governments will attend the celebrations. Police will mount a parade and the RSIPF Brass Band will be performing during the celebrations.

Police in Kirakira in the Makira-Ulawa Province are investigating a traffic accident at Waimapuru National Secondary School on 30 November 2017.

The vehicle was travelling easterly direction and collided with the security fence of Waimapuru National Secondary school.

Provincial Police Commander, Makira Ulawa, Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “Three people were on board the vehicle including the driver. The driver had no driver’s licence and was allegedly under of influence of alcohol. None of the people on the vehicle received any injuries.”

More officers in the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are on their way to be qualified detectives following the completion of a detective qualifying training course held at the Police Academy in Honiara 23 October to 24 November 2017.

This was the second such course held this year. It was attended by 30 participants comprising of 24 male and 6 female officers.

The training was facilitated by the RSIPF Academy with other stake holders including the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Public Solicitor’s Office and the Leadership Code Commission.
