Police in the Central Islands Province (CIP) has appealed to communities in the Province to stay calm and have a safe celebration during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities.

“As we head towards the Christmas festivities, let us take this moment to look at what is the real meaning of Christmas. Christmas is the time of celebration and a time for reconciliation and a time of thanks giving to God for another successful year,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander, CIP, Inspector Hugo Maelasi in his message to communities in the province.

“I came into the force not just as an employment opportunity but with a heart to serve my people and this beautiful country, uplift the laws and to maintain peace and stability of this nation,” says 45-year-old Sergeant John Manegaua of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).

Sergeant Manegaua, from Guadalcanal Province, has been in the RSIPF for the past 16 years. He is currently a supervisor in the National Community Policing Department in Honiara. He is married with two children.

Provincial Police Commander for Makira Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai reminds the good people of that province to have a crime-free and safe festive season for 2017.

“My Christmas message to friends and families in the Makira Ulawa Province is very clear, do the right thing, don’t drink and drive, and celebrate with your families to ensure we minimise incidents of family violence during this festive season. But if you are a victim of family violence come forward and report the matter to the police,” says Superintendent Sitai

The Australian Government sponsored Solomon Islands Police Development Programme (SIPDP) today hosted a morning tea at the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Rove Headquarters during which Police officers from Australia, New Zealand, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force as well as officers from the Australian High Commission and several non-government organisations made pledges to protect women and girls from violence.

Police at Tulagi in the Central Islands Province today 29 November arrested a male suspect for allegedly defiling an underage girl.

The male suspect is alleged to have sexually abused the underage girl on two different occasions.

Acting Provincial Police Commander, Central Islands Province, Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “Statements have already obtained from the victim and her mother after the mother reported the incident to the Police. A case has now been opened and investigations are underway.”

Police in Kirakira in the Makira-Ulawa Province have undergone a refresher training course in Operation Safety Tactics on 28 November as part of their preparations towards the upcoming festive season

“The main objective of this training was to refresh the officers on their operational tactics as they go into operations during the Christmas and New Year festive season,” says Provincial Police Commander, Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai.

The National Community Policing Department of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) continues its outreach to communities in and around Honiara conducting awareness talks in Mbua Valley, Zion and Karaina settlement on the Family Protection Act from 19 November to 22 November 2017 as part of the Crime Prevention Strategy.

“On Sunday 19 November 2017, we conducted an awareness programme at the Mbua Valley community and after the presentations a crime prevention committee was formed,” says National Community Policing Director, Superintendent Solomon Sisimia.

Police in Guadalcanal Province have reported the death of a 61-year-old male at a village in the Tina area of Central Guadalcanal after being attacked by a wild pig yesterday 27 November 2017.

It was alleged the deceased was trying to assist two other men to kill the wild pig which was trapped in the bush. The two other men tried to shoot the wild pig with spears but were unsuccessful. They had gone to find some stones when the deceased took a knife and approached the pig.

Police in Buala, Isabel Province and villagers have concluded a search for a male person in his sixties who went missing on Tuesday 21 November 2017 after he went out on a fishing trip and failed to return home.

The matter was only reported to Police in Buala on the morning of Wednesday 22 November after villagers found the missing person’s canoe with his fishing gear inside, outside of Buma Village in the Maringe District.

Officers from the National Community Policing Department of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) today 25 November joined in a float parade from East to West Honiara in a program to mark the launch of the 16 days of activism against gender based violence in Solomon Islands and throughout the world.

The float parade visited areas described as hotspots including the Henderson Market, Lungga Market, KG VI market, Kobito Market, Old Police post at Borderline, Talise Bus stop and White River Market.
