RSIPF officers in Kirakira, Makira-Ulawa Province are investigating a traffic accident on the Nakini main road, West Bauro on 24 November 2017.

Six people were travelling on board the hilux vehicle when the accident happened. One of the people was injured but is in a stable condition.

Provincial Police Commander, Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai appeals to the people in the Province, “That if you plan to drink alcohol don’t drive and if you drive don’t drink but let someone drive you safely home.”

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It is also White Ribbon Day, which is a movement where men around the world stand up and say “No” to any violence against women and girls.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Guadalcanal Province are investigating the death of a 20-year-old male student of Selwyn College whose body was discovered at the Nuhu-Paru Reef at the Maravovo area in North West Guadalcanal 23 November 2017.

The student allegedly drowned while out on a diving trip with another friend.

It was alleged the student was last seen on Wednesday 22 November between 8pm to 11 pm while diving for fish at the Nuhu-Paru Reef in the Maravovo area of North West Guadalcanal.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will join other stakeholders to kick start the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence against women and girls in Honiara on 25 November with a float parade through the capital stopping at various locations for awareness talks.

The campaign will start at Henderson Police Station and continue into the city as far as White River in West Honiara.

The national theme for this year’s campaign is “Together we can end violence against women and girls through education.”

Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Commissioner, Matthew Varley strongly condemns the gruesome murder of a school girl last week in the Avuavu area of the Weathercoast of Guadalcanal and appeal to the people living in the area to assist the police with its investigation into the matter.

Provincial Police Commander, Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu strongly appeals to the people of Western Province to think ‘safety first’ when travelling on out board motors from island to island and more importantly not to drink when going out to sea.

PPC Lenialu makes the appeal after an incident where a 36- year- old man from Vella la Vella was successfully rescued after he was stranded at sea for about 24 hours from 20 November 2017 until 21 November 2017 outside the island of Kolombangara.

In an effort to prepare for the upcoming festive session, Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Makira-Ulawa provincial capital Kirakira conducted a traffic check in the township on 21 November 2017.

The officers checked for driver’s licenses, vehicle licenses, third party insurance and Road Transport Act’s required documents.

Police in Guadalcanal Province have arrested a 40-year-old suspect in relation to the death of a young girl at Avuavu in the Weathercoast area of South Guadalcanal which was reported to police on 17 November 2017.

The suspect was arrested by police at the Marau Police Station after being invited from his village at Haliatu on the Weathercoast of Guadalcanal. The suspect is expected to appear in the Central Magistrates Court in Honiara tomorrow.

Police in Auki, in the Malaita Province today, 21 November 2017 arrested a 40 year-old male at Auki market for the alleged sale of the drug marijuana.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent, Timothy Apaesi says, “My officers responded to the incident after gathering information from a member of the public that a man was selling marijuana at the Auki Market area.”

“I am pleased with the public assisting the police in such cases because marijuana is a dangerous drug and is illegal to grow, possess and sell,” adds PPC Apaesi.

Police in Gizo, in the Western Province are searching for a missing male person in his 30’s who was travelling from Sagheraghi village, Gizo Island to Vonunu in Vella la Vella Island on 20 November 2017 and failed to arrive at his destination.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “According to the witnesses the missing person was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and was travelling by himself.”
