Police conduct ‘Mekem Pipol Save Moa Law’ operation

As part of their preparations for the upcoming festive season, Police officers at the KiraKira Police Station, in the Makira-Ulawa Province visited remote villages at Marou Bay, in the Arosi 2 District 14 – 17 November to hold awareness talks on Family Protection, the Liquor and Dangerous Drugs Acts.

“During the operations, code named, ‘Mekem Pipol Save Moa long Law’ my officers visited five villages in the Arosi 2 District including Ahia, Tawaiabu, Taramatanga, Wairiri and Harenia,” says Provincial Police Commander, Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai.

Police in Makira-Ulawa Province arrest man for alleged sale of kwaso

Police in Kirakira, Makira-Ulawa Province have arrested a man in his 20’s for the alleged sale of the locally-brewed alcohol known as kwaso on 17 November 2017 in the Waimasi area of West Makira.

Makira-Ulawa Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “My officers gathered information from the public alleging that a man was selling kwaso at Waimasi and so police followed it up and identified the man. Police then confiscated a total of eight bottles of various sizes containing kwaso and $550.00 cash.” The kwaso was brought in from Honiara.

Police investigate fire in West Honiara

Police at the White Police station in West Honiara are investigating an incident in the Tasahe area where a permanent residential building owned by the National Provident Fund burnt down Sunday afternoon 19 November 2017.

The residential building accommodated two separate families. No one was injured.

Police at the White River Police Station say that luckily no one was injured but both families lost all their properties during the fire.

Police in Makira-Ulawa Province joint stakeholders in awareness talk

With the Christmas festivities just around the corner, Police in Kirakira in the Makira-Ulawa Province together with two major stakeholders held a joint awareness talk at the provincial capital on 15 November 2017.

Police at the Kirakira Police Station along with officers of the Public Solicitors’ Office and the Kirakira National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) held the joint awareness talk covering issues including:

• Police and transport legislation (Amendments) (Alcohol testing) Act 2016
• Penal Code Amended Sexual Offence Act 2016; and
• Sea safety.

Police investigate death of 17-year-old girl in Avuavu area of Guadalcanal Province

Police in Guadalcanal Province are investigating the death of a 17 -year-old girl at Avuavu in the Weathercoast area of South Guadalcanal which was reported to police on 17 November 2017.

It was alleged the girl went missing on 14 November after attending Bubutasi Primary School in Avuavu and her parents have been searching for her until 17 November 2017 when her body was found in a bush inland of Avuavu lake; called Churuna area.

Police in Malaita arrest juvenile boy for allegedly stealing money

Police in Auki, Malaita Province have arrested a 17-year-old boy in the township on 17 November 2017 for being alleged involved in the stealing of $5,320.00 cash from Malawai village in Central Kwara’ae, Malaita Province; on 11 November 2017.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Timothy Apaesi says, “No money was found in his possession when my officers arrested him.”

PPC Apaesi adds, "The boy is a juvenile that still requires parental care and I urge parents to do more to assist the police with juvenile matters."

RSIPF assists MID with traffic situation in

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Traffic Department and the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) are working together in an attempt to address the traffic situation in Honiara.

This follows the closure of the one lane bailey bridge in Chinatown and the old Mataniko Bridge near the Makolo Building by the contractor of the road improvement project, KITANO WKK. Only the new Mataniko Bridge is open for traffic leading to long traffic queues from both ends of the capital city.

Police appeal to fishermen to take extra pre caution

Police at Taro, in the Choiseul Province have called on fishermen in the province to be careful when diving following the death of a fisherman from Tuzo Village on Friday 10 November.

The deceased, from Wagina was at Tuzo to do diving for beche-de-mer when he went missing.

The people of the Tuzo village saw his wooden canoe floating but did not see him therefore conducted a search but to no avail. They then sought assistance from the Police to search for the person.

Police in Malaita investigate assault incident during soccer match

Police in the Malaita Province are investigating the alleged assault of a 20-year-old male at Kofiloko Village, in the Baegu-Asifola constituency in North Malaita during a soccer match on 11 November 2017.

A 40-year-old man was arrested by police following the alleged incident and charged for assault causing actual bodily harm under Section 245 of the Penal Code. He was released on bail to appear before the Auki Magistrates Court at a later date.
