Police in Guadalcanal Province are investigating an incident of a store break-in at the Kauvare area West of Honiara on Sunday 29 October during which cash totalling $50,000 and other items worth more than $25,000 were stolen.
“It is believed that the suspect climbed on top of the roof of the shop and gained entry by cutting through the roofing iron and stole the cash and other items,” says Provincial Police Commander, Guadalcanal Province, Nixon Manetoga.
Police in Honiara are investigating the alleged suicide of an adult male whose body was found in front of a residence at Vara Creek in Central Honiara on 26 October 2017.
Police Forensic Officers attended the incident and after examining the body they transported him to the National Referral Hospital.
“Police would like to appeal to the public and especially in the Vara Creek area in Honiara for come forward with any information they might have on the incident,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander for Honiara City, Barry Saukiu.
Police are investigating the death of an expatriate in the Ngossi area of West Honiara on the night of 27 October 2017.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander, Honiara City, Superintendent Barry Saukiu says, “Honiara Police and officers of the Police Forensics Department attended the scene of the incident on the same night and transported the body of the deceased to the National Referral Hospital (NRD). Police plans to carry out a post mortem on the body.”
It is believed that the expatriate was an employee for the Coral Sea Resort and Casino in Honiara.
The Police Response Team (PRT) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has successfully destroyed six crocodiles during an operation carried out on Kolombangara Island in the Western Province from 14- 23 October 2017.
The PRT were deployed from Honiara following concerns about the threat of dangerous crocodiles at Hapi Harbour and Lolu Bibiu Harbour to lives of people in the community.
The RSIPF will respond whenever required to protect the people of Solomon Islands.
A vehicle driver is assisting the Police in Gizo in the Western Province following an accident involving a man in his 20’s who was injured while trying to get onto the back of a 3-ton truck in the township on 25 October 2017.
It was alleged the man ran behind the moving vehicle and held onto the right side trailer, and attempted to jump onto the back of the vehicle trailer. However, he was unable to get onto the vehicle and fell. His right leg went under the right rear tyre of the vehicle and injured his leg.
The Solomon Islands Government has announced that it is ready to welcome the President of the Republic of China (ROC) on Taiwan, Her Excellency Tsai Ing-wen and her delegation to Honiara next week.
As statement from the Prime Minister’s Office today confirms that President Tsai Ing-wen will arrive on Wednesday the 1st of November before departing on Friday the 3rd.
In Honiara, she will meet with the Governor-General Sir Frank Kabui and Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare to exchange opinions on bilateral relations and issues of international importance.
A total of four adult male persons have been charged with one count of robbery and one count of arson each in connection with an incident at the Doma Festival Compound on North West Guadalcanal which saw the burning of a canteen and the robbing of a family in the area on Sunday 22 October 2017.
The four men have been released on bail and due to appear in court for mention on 8 November 2017.
It was alleged that the four men were travelling in a car and arrived at the Doma Festival Compound where they threatened a family there and set fire to the family’s canteen.
Two 17-year-old male persons were taken in by police and questioned in connection with the burning of five houses at two separate villages in the Aola area of Guadalcanal Province on Sunday 15 October 2017.
One of the suspects has been questioned and released but the other is continuing to assist the police with their investigations.
The Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), Gabriel Manelusi met with heads of security companies in Honiara on 21 October at the Rove Police Head Quarters to discuss the Crime Prevention Strategy.
“The meeting was to discuss how these private security companies will be able to assist to prevent crime in the national capital Honiara as part of the Crime Prevention Strategy that is being also rolled out throughout the country,” says Deputy Commissioner, Operations, Gabriel Manelusi.
Police at Gizo in the Western Province have commended members of the public in the township for their behavior during the visit of the cruise boat the ‘Pacific Eden’ last Friday 20 October 2017.
“I want to once again commend the public in Gizo for their behavior during the visit of the cruise boat which saw about 1,500 tourists came ashore. The tourists spoke highly of their visit due to the friendliness of the people who they met during their short visit to Gizo,” says Provincial Police Commander, Western Province, Mathias Lenialu.
