Police are continuing their search for two men who escaped from lawful custody at the Honiara Magistrates Court on Wednesday 18 October 2017.
The two men were charged with armed robbery offences and had appeared in Court on Wednesday where they remanded in custody. It is alleged that the two men were involved in an armed home invasion at Panatina Ridge on Friday 13 October 2017. They then escaped from police as they were about to be transported to the Rove Correctional facility.
Police at the Kukum Traffic Centre in Honiara have formally arrested and charged 10 drivers over the weekend (21-22 October 2017) and will appear before the Honiara Central Magistrates Court following a weekend operation.
The drivers will face charges including
• Careless Driving;
• Presence of alcohol in person’s blood;
• Dangerous Loading;
• Using Unlicensed motor Vehicle; and
• Failure to display Motor Vehicle License.
Police at Lata in the Temotu Province are monitoring the situation in the province after the Tinakula volcano erupted on Saturday 21 October with the wind carrying ash to the nearby islands.
“Police successfully rescued three people from Tinakula after receiving a report in the early hours of Saturday that the volcano had erupted. The three people were reported to have gone to the island, which is uninhabited, to visit their gardens and pigs,” says Provincial Police Commander, Temotu Province, Frank Menesa.
Police in Honiara have arrested a 35-year-old male in connection with the death of a 10-year-old male in the West Kola Ridge area of the city today Tuesday 24 October 2017.
It is alleged that the deceased was playing with other kids of his age outside his parents’ home between 9 am to 10 am this morning when the male suspect appeared with a knife and allegedly stabbed the deceased.
Police responded to a report on the incident and after enquiries the 35-year-old male suspect was arrested and placed in custody
Police in Choiseul Province are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an Asian male adult at the Luti Logging Camp in South Choiseul.
Taro Police were informed of the incident on 19 October. It was believed that the male person died as a result of eating poisoned fish.
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) today destroyed the firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition surrendered during the Firearms Amnesty held from 22 May to 9 June 2017.
A total of 18 firearms and more than 2800 round of ammunitions were surrendered at the end of the amnesty period.
Police in Honiara have started its Zero Tolerance Operation in the capital to ensure members of the public are safe as the country prepares for the Christmas festivities.
“We started this operation last weekend with great success. Thirteen suspects were arrested and nine drivers were arrested for drink and drive offences. A total of five male suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape and defilement of a 13-year-old girl from Saegolona Village near Haliatu in South Guadalcanal.
Two of the suspects have arrested for allegedly raping the victim and other three male suspects have been arrested on allegation of being parties to the offence in assisting the two suspects to allegedly rape the victim.
Police in Honiara have arrested four suspects in connection with an alleged armed robbery at the Panatina Ridge, East Honiara in the early morning of Friday 13 October during which thieves took off with cash and property worth more than $50,000.00.
Police in Honiara have formally arrested and placed in custody a 39-year-old vehicle driver for causing the death of a 70-year-old male during an accident in Central Honiara on 14 October 2017.
The deceased passed away at the National Referral Hospital on the night of 15 October 2017.
