The capability of Forensic Officers in the Royal Solomon Islands Police in the use of finger print technology to strengthen evidence has been boosted with the completion of a two-day training workshop on new fingerprint technology.

The training held 12 – 13 October was conducted by a trainer from United Kingdom specialised in operating equipment called MVC 3000 fingerprint development Supa Glue chamber.

Police Traffic Officers in Honiara have arrested and charged nine drivers with the presence of alcohol above the prescribed amount in their blood during the weekend.

“Out of the total of nine drivers, seven of the drivers were arrested during the police traffic operation conducted in Honiara from 14 – 15 and the two others were arrested following separate accidents. All nine drivers have been released on principle bail awaiting a date for the hearing of their charges in court,” says Kukum Traffic Centre Director, Inspector Brian Surimalefo.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has officially commissioned its second deployment of five officers to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan during a parade at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara today.

The parade was also to officially welcome back the first deployment of five officers who returned last month after spending one year in Sudan. The five officers were each awarded the RSIPF International Law Enforcement Cooperation Medal in recognition of their contributions to the United Nations.

Police in Makira Province will now be able to carry out random breathalyser tests on drivers in that province after the recent completion of a two-day training workshop and the presentation of two breathalyser devices to the KiraKira Police station.

Two traffic officers, Staff Sergeant George Mouli and Police Constable Joel Donia from the Kukum Traffic Centre in Honiara conducted the training for 16 officers at the KiraKira Police Station from 3 – 4 October.

Kukum Traffic Police in Honiara have arrested a 39 year-old male involved in an accident at Lengakiki Road in Central Honiara on Sunday 8 October 2017.

“The driver of the silver white caldina car was tested by traffic police using a breathalyser and his blood alcohol was 0.139% which was above the prescribed level of 0.050%,” says Deputy Director of Kukum Traffic Centre Hugo Maelasi.

A visiting academic from the University of the South Pacific (USP) in Suva, Fiji commends the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) for implementing the Executive decision of recruiting equal number of males and females into its new recruit intake every year.

Dr Danielle Watson, Coordinator of the Pacific Policing Program at the USP was invited as a Guest Speaker at the Conference of Provincial Police Commanders and Directors currently underway in Honiara.

More than 60 women officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) across the country today (9 October) attended a one-day workshop at the Police Headquarters in Rove, Honiara called Women in Policing.

The Workshop was initiated by the RSIPF Women’s Advisory Network (WAN) in which represents women officers from each provincial police and the various departments and divisions within the Force.

The Workshop discussed how women officers can contribute effectively in policing.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will be part of the consultation on the Government’s proposed National Security Policy.

Under Secretary in the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Mactus Forau reaffirmed this when presenting to the Provincial Commanders’ and Directors’ Conference underway in Honiara on the role of the Ministry and the various policies being implemented by the present Government.

The Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Hon. Moses Garu today opened the one-week conference of the Provincial Police Commanders and departmental directors of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara.

The Conference is the second for this year, is being attended by 27 Provincial Police Commanders from all the provinces and Honiara City, and departmental directors from the RSIPF Headquarters in Rove.
