Police in Auki, Malaita Province have formally charged two male suspects for the alleged attack on a security guard at the provincial capital on Saturday 30th September 2017.
The suspects have been remanded for 14 days as from Wednesday 4 October at the Auki Correctional Centre.
It was alleged that the arrested suspect punched the security guard when police were trying to negotiate with the guard to put away a weapon in his possession.
Provincial Police Commanders and departmental directors of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force throughout the country will gather at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara for their conference, 9 – 12 October 2017.
“This week long conference is to review the RSIPF’s Annual Business Plan 2017 and the Work Action Plan for this year. Also during this conference the PPCs and Directors will discuss and develop the 2018 Annual Business Plan,” says Ian Bara, RSIPF’s Director of Strategy, Planning and Policy.
Twenty one Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers successfully completed a five-week intensive Detective Qualifying Course coordinated by the Police Academy with other stakeholders including the Offices of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Public Solicitor and Judiciary on 5 October 2017.
These officers have previously attended various investigation courses and others have done the first and second levels of basic investigation career pathway and now the qualifying course to become qualified Detectives.
The understanding of officers in the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) of the rights of children and the issues they face in the communities is expected to be boosted after their participation at the Workshop on Child Rights and Violence held at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara 4 – 5 October 2017.
The workshop is a joint effort between the RSIPF and Save the Children in Solomon Islands under the project, ‘Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) in Solomon Islands’.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has announced the names of its officers who have been confirmed by the United Nations as the next contingent to join the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan.
RSIPF has nominated eight officers, but the UN has only confirmed five of them.
The five RSIPF Officers are:

• Nelson Kalea

Police in Guadalcanal Province are investigating the sudden death of a male in his 50’s at Matepona Bridge, North Guadalcanal on 05 October 2017.
Provincial Police Commander, Guadalcanal Province, Nixson Manetoga says, “reports reaching police alleged that the deceased suddenly collapsed and struggled to breathe while waiting for transport with his market produce.”
PPC Manetoga says, “The deceased was then transported shortly after the incident to Good Samaritan Hospital and but was later pronounced dead.”

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) reminds members of the public to report any sightings of unexploded bombs (UXOs) within their communities to the nearest police station and keep well away from the objects.
The RSIPF’s Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) in Honiara was alerted of an UXO at Munda Airport area in Western Province and responded to the report on 25 September 2017.
Members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) National Response Department have shot seven crocodiles during an operation in the West Are’ Are area of Malaita Province recently.
The operation was conducted at the Kiu and Waitara villages after a report was received of frequent sightings of the crocodiles posing a threat to the communities.
