RSIPF officers in Task Force JANUS today arrested a permanent secretary and charged him with multiple counts of official corruption, pursuant to Section 91 of the Penal Code of Solomon Islands

The wife of the suspect was also arrested and charged with multiple counts of false pretences.

It is alleged that the permanent secretary approved multiple payments for motor vehicle hire to a company registered to his wife and himself. The value of the payments is in excess of $1.1 million.

They will appear at the Honiara Magistrates Court tomorrow.

A 19-year old male suspect has been arrested at the New Zealand Camp area East of Honiara today in connection with the removal of a plaque from the Bloody Ridge War Memorial last weekend.

This follows on from the discovery of the stolen plaque by a woman yesterday in the Lunga River area

RSIPF Guadalcanal Officers arrested the suspect today after information received from the woman who found the plaque and other members of the local community. The suspect will now be formally charged and to appear before the Court in due course

RSIPF Guadalcanal Officers today recovered the stolen plaque from the WWII memorial at Bloody Ridge East of Honiara and are in search for a suspect who allegedly removed the plaque last weekend.

The plaque was only installed during the recent commemorations to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal during the Second World War.

RSIPF with the assistance from local diving company, Tulagi Dives today located and recovered the body of the missing Asian crew from a tug boat that sunk off Bungana Island in the Central Islands Province in the early evening of Thursday 27 July 2017.

There were seven crew members on board the tug boat when it sank. Six of the crew swam to safety on Bungana Island except for the one Asian crew member.

RSIPF Officers in the Western Province are investigating the dead body of an adult female person found at Kinamara Village near Noro this morning 15 August 2017.

Provincial Police Commander, Western Province, Mathias Lenialu says reports reaching the police say the female in her 30’s was missing from her home since Friday 12 August 2017.

Honiara City Police officers have arrested the suspect in an alleged assault on two New Zealand (NZ) naval officers at a night club in the capital on the night of Friday 4 August 2017.

The two NZ naval officers were in Honiara as part of the recent 75th Battle of Guadalcanal Anniversary Commemorations.

The RSIPF once again reminds members of the public to check on the weather including the situation with the sea when travelling between the islands especially on outboard motor canoes.

This reminder follows the successful rescue of 10 passengers including one child from a ray boat that sank in rough seas while travelling from the Shortland Islands to Gizo in the Western Province earlier yesterday 14 August 2017. The boat and the 90 horsepower engine were lost.

A joint operation between RSIPF Honiara City and Guadalcanal Province uprooted and confiscated about 3,000 marijuana plants today Saturday 12 August 2017.

Police uprooted two gardens in two different locations. One location at Mbarande and the other at Mbalesuna, East Guadalcanal.

During the raid, the joint operation apprehended an alleged suspect for farming the illegal and dangerous plant. Currently the suspect was under police custody waiting for further investigations.

RSIPF is rolling out its Crime Prevention Strategy with the establishment so far of about 400 Ward Crime Prevention Committees throughout the country.

“I want to congratulate the provincial assembly members, chiefs, church leaders, women and youth representatives for their cooperation in agreeing to become members of these Ward Crime Prevention Committees. These Committees are very important in the roll out of the Crime Prevention Strategy,” says Deputy Commissioner, Gabriel Manelusi.
