Taro police arrest a 30-year-old male suspect for intimidation and threatening violence in Choiseul province

Taro police have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for intimidation and threatening violence at Vurango village recently.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Berry Pogesopa, said it was alleged that the suspect intimidates people at Vurango village with a bush knife and threatens to kill them.

PPC Pogesopa said it was further alleged that the suspect also had a firearm with him which, later when arrested and searched, police found out was an imitation firearm only.

Superintendent Pogesopa said with the help of the Police Response Team (PRT), who were stationed at the western border, they arrested the suspect, brought him to Taro, and dealt with.

Mr. Pogesopa said such an attitude and behaviours in our communities are not acceptable, while we appreciate the good people at Vurango village for reporting the matter to the police.

“Police will not tolerate such actions in our communities.

If you have any issues with the community, bring it up for discussion with our community leaders and solve it rather than taking the law into your own hands,” said PPC Pogesopa.

The suspect has been dealt with and charged. And he will appear before court on 19 May 2025.

The Vurango community leaders echo and praise police for prompt action and the immediate arrest of the suspect.
