Police arrest a 35-yr-old male person for brewing homebrew in Malaita Province

A joint operation between Auki, Atori, and Atoifi police has successfully concluded with the arrest of a 35-year-old male suspect at Uru Harbor near Atoifi in east Kwaio, Malaita province.

The suspect was arrested and charged on 13 May 2025 after they confiscated a large amount of homebrew during the raid at his home village.

The church and women leaders within the communities were impressed with the police for the arrest.

They expressed their gratitude and applauded the police operations team for the job well done in maintaining law and order and the safety of their community.

The suspect has been charged with the offense of making liquor without approval contrary to section 50 (2)(c) of the Liquor Act and an additional count for equipment for making liquor on premises and possession without approval contrary to section 50 (2)(b) of the Liquor Act.

The suspect was released on principal bail while waiting to appear in Atori court circuit on a later date.

Police commend the community for their support during the operation and ensure that the law will take its course to reduce homebrew and marijuana production in East Kwaio.
