Police arrest a 25-year-old male person for possession of marijuana

Auki police arrested a 25-year-old male person with a basket containing dried marijuana last week (7 May 2025) in Auki, Malaita Province.

Operation Manager, Malaita Province, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea said police officers were on foot patrol when they saw the suspect drinking kwaso (homebrew) beside a shop in Auki town with the traditional basket.

Operation Manager Superintendent Ramosaea said the suspect was carrying a big traditional basket; upon search, officers found bundles of dried marijuana in the basket.

Superintendent Ramosaea said the suspect was arrested, dealt with, and is remanded at Auki Correctional Facility awaiting his court date. The estimated street value of the marijuana is around $3,000.00.

Mr. Ramosaea appeals to community leaders and parents to remind youths that there are other legal ways to earn money. Selling marijuana will only get you arrested for prosecution.
