Police meet with Minister of Community Governance in Makira/Ulawa Province

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Community Policing Unit (CPU) at Kirakira police station recently met with the Minister of Community Governance and other stakeholders at Kirakira, Makira/Ulawa Province.

Team Leader of the Community Policing Unit in Makira/Ulawa Province, Sergeant (Sgt) Audrey Suhata, said the meeting was held to inform the minister and other stakeholders on the status of the Crime Prevention Strategy (CPS) rollout and its challenges.

Sgt. Suhata reiterated the importance of continuous collaboration with stakeholders to identify the existing gaps and work on filling them.

Mr. Suhata said the provincial government, Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPA), and stakeholders need to understand the roles they play in the crime prevention strategy.

During the meeting, they seek appropriate avenues to merge the CPS with the existing governance ordinance 2006.

“According to the CPU's five-year strategic plan, we are now at the second phase of the CPS, which is the standardization of the bylaws according to wards,” said Officer Suhata.

Honorable Daniel Dauataha promised attendees that they will soon have a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the community governance and executive government; this will help ward development committees to allocate funding that can sustain CPS in their ward.

Mr. Dauataha, MPA for Ward 5 and Minister of the Provincial Government, conveyed appreciation CPU in Makira/Ulawa Province for the initiative in sustaining CPS in every ward in Makira/Ulawa Province.
