Drunk man arrested for stabbing a 23-year-old victim with a kitchen knife in Malaita province
Auki police have arrested a 25-year-old drunk man from a village near Auki Town in Malaita Province for stabbing a 23-year-old victim on 31 May 2025.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Malaita Province, Chief Superintendent Tex Tafoa, said it was alleged that the suspect was jealous of his wife after she said good night to the victim when he walked past their house.
PPC Tafoa said the suspect chased the victim and attempted to stab him on the back of his neck, but luckily the victim moved quickly; as a result, the knife landed on his right shoulder, which resulted in a deep wound. The suspect then stabbed him again.
Chief Superintendent Tafoa said after he had done it, the suspect fled from the scene, and community members contacted the police and assisted the victim to Kilufi Hospital, where he was admitted and receiving medical treatment.
Mr. Tafoa said the suspect was later arrested and taken into police custody. He has been charged with attempted murder. The suspect is currently remanded in Auki Correctional Facility awaiting his trial on a later date.
The provincial police chief urged chiefs and community leaders to make strong efforts to reduce the production and consumption of Kwaso in their communities. They are encouraged to enforce community bylaws to help manage illegal and harmful activities.
"Auki Police commended the community leaders for ensuring the suspect was handed over to authorities. Let us continue to work together to reduce crime in our communities," said PPC Tafoa.
