RSIPF rebut article authored by Alfred Sasako on ‘rogue cops, 500kg cocaine gone’ and ‘police officer refuses to sell drug’

Armed RSIPF officers provide security during the destruction of the cocaine.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) wishes to rebut an article authored by Alfred SASAKO on 5 June 2025 and 6 June 2025 entitled “ROGUE COPS, 500KG COCAINE GONE, and Police officer refuses to sell drug.

The office of the commissioner of police says this article is again one of the continued lies and the same pattern used over recent times to destroy the image of the RSIPF executive and its police officers. These articles are grossly misleading and false, which need more research for accuracy.

The 500kg of cocaine seized in 2018, which is reported in these articles, is all accounted for and safely destroyed through the use of an incinerator by the RSIPF, the Australian Federal Police (AFP), under Solomon Island Police Support Program (SIPDP) advisors, with the support of Solomon Island Customs and the Solomon Islands Ports Authority, after approval was given from relevant authorities to destroy these dangerous drugs.

The bulk cocaine was destroyed in 2019. This cocaine destruction was reported to the media in that same year. RSIPF has the evidence of the destruction with some photos.

Mr. Sasako, with his so-called police source, cooked up a worse lie to say the drugs were kept at a senior officer’s office for sale. These 500kg of cocaine were removed from the Rove police exhibit office to a secured location where there is a 24/7-armed security watch until they were finally destroyed. RSIPF has an approved destruction plan, which was smoothly implemented.

RSIPF believes the so-called police source knows very well the truth but crafted a twisted story with a hidden agenda to destabilize RSIPF and destroy the good image of RSIPF and its executive.

This is the same disinformation tactic made over the years to make the public believe those false stories. This is an ongoing accusation of lies intended to condition the minds of the public to accept and believe the story to mistrust RSIPF, and this must be stopped because it confuses the public and is not good for this country.

RSIPF welcomes investigation from any integrity institutions into this allegation to clear doubts. RSIPF will continue to work with the public and the law enforcement agencies to ensure that illegal drugs are tackled in this country.
