Police arrest a 26-year-old male suspect for the allegation of rape in Honiara
Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Naha police station have arrested a 26-year-old male suspect for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl at a community in east Honiara on 2 June 2025.
Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Naha police station, Superintendent Leslie Kili, said it was alleged that the suspect asked the victim to massage his back, but the victim refused and went to the bathroom for a shower.
OCS Kili said when the victim walked to the bathroom, the suspect walked to the door of the bathroom and blocked her and confronted the victim. He grabbed, pulled into the room and rape her. Despite the victim shouting, he told her not to shout.
Superintendent Kili said the victim reported the matter to her aunt, and they went to the Naha police station and reported it. On the same day, the suspect was arrested and dealt with. He was bailed to appear before court on a later date.
Mr. Kili said police emphasized the commitment to addressing sexual violence and
supporting victims throughout the investigative process and reminded the community of the importance of reporting such incidents and the resources available for victims of sexual assault.
He said victims are encouraged to seek help and utilize the services provided by authorities dedicated to assisting those affected by sexual violence. By coming forward, individuals can not only find the support they need but also help foster a safer community for everyone.
