Police investigate missing man whose body remains were found in a creek in the Russell Islands
The body remains of a 26-year-old man who went missing in December 2024 were found in a creek at Hae village in Lavukal ward, Russell Islands, on 31 May 2025.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Central Province, Superintendent David Soakai, said the deceased went missing on 19 December 2024 at Leufaman, in the small Hae village.
PPC Soakai said the missing man accompanied his grandmother to the garden, and later he wanted to go back home, and this is where he went missing.
Superintendent Soakai said the relatives have identified the deceased when they removed the body remains with his clothes, which he wore at the time he went missing.
Mr. Soakai said a suspect has been arrested and dealt with, and he is currently remanded at Rove Correctional Facility to appear in court on a later date.
He said a joint investigation between the National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) and Central Province police is ongoing.
The provincial chief shares his condolences with the immediate family members for the loss of their loved one.
“I appeal to anyone who has any information regarding this sad incident to assist police,” said PPC Soakai.
