Police arrest a 20-year-old male suspect for threatening his mother

Auki police have arrested a 20-year-old male suspect for threatening his 48-year-old mother with a bush knife.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) for Malaita Province, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea, said the incident occurred at Rurusia village, Langa Langa lagoon, in Malaita province on 2 July 2025.

PPC Ramosaea said the suspect was under the influence of alcohol when he returned home and had an argument with his mother.

Supervising PPC Ramosaea said That the suspect allegedly pulled out a bush knife and chased his mother while issuing threats to her.

Superintendent Ramosaea said his mother managed to escape and reached the Auki Police Station, where she reported the matter. The suspect was formally arrested and placed in police custody.

The suspect has been Formally charged with domestic violence, contrary to Section 58(1) of the Family Protection Act, and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Superintendent Ramosaea urged community leaders, church leaders, and chiefs to put more effort into addressing the issue of domestic violence in the communities.

Police also called on youths to respect their parents, emphasizing that resorting to extreme measures to harm them is a tragic and unacceptable act. Communities are encouraged to establish bylaws and promptly report such criminal behaviors to the police.
