Operation (Ops) Commander Mr. Simpson Pogeava said most reports are alcohol-related during the zero-tolerance operation in Honiara over the weekend, which involved our youths.
Ops Commander Pogeava said some people are involved in the illegal sale of alcohol, such as Kwaso (homebrew). Even others illegally sell off alcohol along with their betel nut stalls on the roadside markets.
Mr. Pogeava said it is very sad that there is a report of rocking of police vehicles by the public. Such behaviors or attitudes towards police must be condemned in the strongest terms. Appeals to the public must respect your police and the government properties.
“Good if those have access to the night clubs to enjoy, relax, and respect others. Stay away from causing problems that may cause disunity among our people,” he said.
Commander Pogeava said, “There were pubs running without valid business licenses, and we are liaising with them on that matter. Others found will be dealt with the full force of the law.
There were officers from Correctional Services of Solomon Islands (CSSI), and police officers who were found involved in illegal gambling were escorted to the station for further dealings.
“Operation Zero Tolerance is not only targeted for the public involved in illegal activities but also disciplines officers who disregard their code of conduct,” Commander Pogeava said.
Operation Zero Tolerance is an operation plan to clean up Honiara as we get ready to welcome our dignitaries from other countries for the Pacific Island Forum summit in September 2025.
