Police conduct awareness program at Fijian quarter and Karaina road side market as part of security preparation for the PIFL meeting in September

NCPD officers conduct an awareness talk at the Fijian quarter market in Central Honiara.

The National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) is rolling out its community engagement plan to certain communities in Honiara in preparation for the upcoming Pacific Island Forum Leaders (PIFL) that will happen next month in the country.

The latest places that have been visited during the awareness program by the NCPD are Fijian Quarter in Central Honiara and Karaina Market in West Honiara.

Other places that have been visited recently are Corona, Maromaro, Fishing Village, Boarderline, Kukum, Town Council bus stop, Lengakiki Green Tank, Honiara Central, and Henderson Island Market.

The awareness basically focuses on informing the public about the upcoming events, and one of them is the PIFL meeting in September 2025.

Director of NCPD, Inspector Steve Sunaone, said awareness implementations are very important to empower our people to take ownership and pride to ensure that the PIFL meeting and other events turn out successfully.

Director Sunaone, said we must paint a good picture of such events to other countries so they know that we are capable of hosting such events.

This may perhaps pave a way forward for us to host bigger international events and world summits in future in our country.

Inspector Sunaone said, "On behalf of the National Government, Guadalcanal Province, Honiara City Council, development partners, and relevant stakeholders, through the office of the Commissioner of RSIPF, we would like to appeal for:

• Continue to keep peace in our communities and law and order
• Respect each other and always maintain peace.
• Keep our places clean, as we will have visitors in the country.
• Work together with your police RSIPF.”
