The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) and China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) jointly organized a training session on cybersecurity for large-scale events for about 25 investigators of the National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) recently.

This training session is to support the police security operation before the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leaders (PIFL) Meeting that will happen in the country next week.

CPLT member, Training Leader, and Superintendent Yang Jian said the training was closely tailored to the current cybersecurity situation in the Solomon Islands and the needs of the RSIPF.

Superintendent Jian said the content covered the definition of cybersecurity for major events, the main risks and threats faced by cybersecurity for major events and the corresponding strategies, as well as how to formulate cybersecurity plans and emergency response plans for major events.

Director of NCID Chief Superintendent John Foru, in his remarks, emphasized that the PIFL Meeting is about to happen and it is urgent to enhance the RSIPF's ability to provide cybersecurity for major events.

“The CPLT's active response to the RSIPF's needs and sharing of the most advanced cybersecurity knowledge will greatly enhance the RSIPF's confidence and ability to participate in the security operation,” said Director Foru.

During the training, the participants engaged in discussions. The instructor from the CPLT patiently answered questions raised by the trainees on how to quickly identify new phishing emails and how to ensure the operation of key systems during network congestion. He also shared China's experiences and solutions.
