An equally fought first soccer match in the Master League Soccer Competition (MLSC) at Burns Creek field recently saw the Green Berets (GB) and Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) Oldies share a point each at the full-time whistle.
Both teams for the first time met in what was described as a spectacular display of enthusiasm and a bombarded encounter with more chances created by RSIPF Oldies to see the back of the net but was denied by the GB goalkeeper.
GB managed to hold on tight to more pressured runs from RSIPF oldies until the final whistle.
RSIPF Oldies Team Coach Inspector Garnette Jnr Kwanairara described the game as a tough one, a game we must take some positivity from and work towards improving on our failures for our next game.
Inspector Garnette said that our next game will be very important for us to secure wins if we want to remain in competition, and so keeping up on training, fitness, and running and engaging in friendly matches prior to actual game times will be an advantage in our preparation.
Coach Kwanairara said that our playing field at Rove was engaged in other activities last month, a contributing factor towards our shared point yesterday; otherwise, it would have been our game.
The coach also added that RSIPF Oldies will not play in any games next week due to our commitment to the Pacific Island Forum Leaders Meeting but will do catch-up matches the following week to enable us to keep up with other teams.
MLSC started in August 2025 with a SBD5,000.00 registration fee for each team. All team members must be more than 35 years old. Great prices in the pipeline, and all teams are looking forward to winning the trophy and cash prize.
Solomon Islands Foot Federation (SIFF) Legends, SIFF Titans, Solomon Ports, Solomon Power, the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, and others are amongst the competing teams in the MLSC.
