Police in Western Province, with the support from Honiara and Taro police, are engaging in awareness talks in Noro township as part of the security preparation for the Pacific Island Forum Leaders (PILF) retreat in Noro next week.

Today (7 September 2025), police have conducted an awareness talk at a Noro South Sea Evangelical Church (SSEC) and Christian Fellowship Church (CFC) in Noro.

The awareness program started a few days ago to inform local residents and the good people in Noro and Munda townships.

Operation Commander in Western Province, Supervising Deputy Commissioner (DC) Operations Mr. Mathias Lenialu, said the purpose of this awareness campaign is to promote a safe and peaceful environment in anticipation of the high-level delegation of PIFL officials who will be visiting Noro for their retreat, which is part of their official agenda.

DC Lenialu said, “The zero-tolerance approach also applies in Western Province. Anyone who takes the law into their own hands will be dealt with severely.

Commander Leniaalu said the community policing team has begun their awareness program in Munda, covering a few locations over the weekend. On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the team continued their outreach program in the Noro market area.

“Today, September 7, 2025, the community policing team is focusing their awareness efforts primarily around churches in Noro Township and appeals to church leaders and community leaders to work together with police in keeping our town safe and peaceful for the arrival of the delegation this week,” said DC Supervising Mr. Lenialu.
