Man who assaulted a woman with a bush knife has been apprehended, formally charged, and remanded.
Maka police have arrested a 47-year-old male suspect for assaulting a 32-year-old female victim with a bush knife at Aiarai village in west Areꞌare lagoon on 12 October 2025.
It was alleged that on 5 October 2025, the suspect struck the victim on her left arm with a bush knife, and she sustained injury.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Malaita Province, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea said the victim of the wounding incident attended medical for medication, and her condition is stable.
PPC Ramosaea said it was further alleged that the suspect has a hearing problem, so when victims are joking among themselves, the suspect thinks that they are joking at him.
Superintendent Ramosaea said after committing the offense, the suspect escaped to a village in central Kwara’ae, and this is where Auki and Maka police arrested the suspect.
The suspect has been charged with the offense of unlawful wounding contrary to section 229 of the penal code, remanded, and will appear before Auki Magistrates’ Court on 14 October 2025.
“I appeal to both parties involved in this incident not to retaliate or take the law into your own hands and allow police to deal with the matter. I would be strengthening Crime Prevention Committees in West and East Are Are,” said the provincial police chief.
