First police deployment to NNG commences
The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Western Province (WP) deployed the first batch of police officers to Keru in North New Georgia (NNG) in mid-December 2025.
The first police deployment came after the outgoing Police Commissioner, Mr. Mostyn Magau, and Permanent Secretary, Ms. Karren Galokale, visited the spiritual authority for allocating a hectare of land at Rovana Island to establish a police station.
The RSIPF in the WP, noting the need for police presence in the remote area of North New Georgia, asks the spiritual authority to temporarily set up a police post at Keru.
Officers deployed to the Keru temporary police post visited communities within NNG Island, conducting awareness talks and setting up Crime Prevention Committees (CPCs).
Among the topics delivered during the awareness talks are common offenses that are usually caused by offenders within the community, such as common nuisance, restriction of making liquor, simple larceny, malicious damage, dangerous drugs, and the Family Protection Act.
Besides the awareness talks, officers deployed confiscated kwaso (homebrew) and its cooking utensils in a village on NNG Island.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) WP Superintendent Wilken Miriki acknowledged the Christian Fellowship Church (CFC) spiritual leader for accommodating and looking after the RSIPF officers and for allowing policing to reach the most remote areas in NNG.
PPC Mriki said police presence will remain in NNG until such time as a police station is established on Rovana Island.
