Man, who raped his own sister charged with two counts in Temotu Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Lata have charged a man who raped his own sister with two counts of rape recently.
The suspect has been charged with 1 count of incest contrary to Section 163(2) of the Penal Code (Amendment) (Sexual Offences) Act 2016 and 1 count of rape contrary to Section 136F of the Penal Code (Amendment) (Sexual Offences) Act 2016.
The rape incident occurred on 5 January 2026 when the suspect told his sister that he had a training and worked together with a medical officer in Lata Hospital, and he could treat his sister's complaint of health issues.
It was alleged that during the process of the treatment, the accused committed the act. The victim reported the matter to the police on 13 February 2026, and attempts were made on the same day to arrest the suspect, but he escaped.
The suspect was later arrested on 15 February 2026 and dealt with. The suspect is currently remanded at Lata Correctional Facility, waiting for his next appearance. The investigation is ongoing.
Supervising Operation Manager Sergeant (Sgt) Junior Bilve urged members of the community where the incident occurred to assist police with information.
Operation Manager Sgt. Bilve condemned the matter in the strongest terms, as it will affect the victim in many ways, which include enduring more emotional, social, physical, and self-identity issues.
“As a brother, it is the sole responsibility to take care of and have dignity for your sister and not to regard her as an alternate wife for the purpose of having sexual intercourse,” said Supervising Operation Manager Bilve.
Lata Police urged community members within Santa Cruz Island to work together to stop such incidents from happening again in our communities.
