Police arrested and charged a suspect for stealing smartphones in WP

Gizo police have arrested and charged a suspect for stealing two smartphones at a residence at Jah Mountain in Gizo, Western Province (WP), recently.

It was alleged that the suspect gained entry at the window of the bathroom of the victims’ house and stole a Redmi 13 and a Samsung mobile phone.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Western Province, Superintendent Wilken Miriki, said the suspect was later identified, reported to the Gizo police, arrested, and later escaped lawful custody and was rearrested.

PPC Miriki said the suspect has been charged with one count of housebreaking and committing a felony contrary to section 299 (a) of the Penal Code and one count of escaping from lawful custody, contrary to section 199 of the law.

Superintendent Miriki said the suspect is currently remanded at the Gizo Correctional Centre, waiting for his court appearance on a later date.
