The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is increasing security measures in Honiara following reports of a potential protest in the capital.
Any person planning to engage in criminal activity, disorderly behavior, or unlawful gatherings will be dealt with firmly under the full extent of the law.
The Acting Commissioner of RSIP, Mr. Mathias Lenilau, stated that rumors circulating in Honiara about a planned protest are unfounded and that police will be deployed in large numbers.
The Commissioner urged the public to refrain from spreading false rumors that could create unnecessary fear and panic to our people.
He emphasized that there is no basis for any protest and encouraged people to focus on their regular activities as usual.
Mr. Lenialu stressed the importance of preserving peace and order in the capital and allowing our leaders to carry out their mandated authority in addressing the current political instability.
The public is strongly encouraged to report any suspicious or unlawful gatherings to the nearest police station or to the officers on patrol or on foot beat patrols.
The police chief said spreading false rumors is not a healthy idea at such a time. Your police, the RSIPF, are appealing to everyone to concentrate on normal business as usual.
