“We must prioritize peace over violence, safety over destruction, and stability over disunity"—a strong statement police keep repeating during an awareness program conducted for vendors at Talise, Borderline, and Kobito bus stop markets in Honiara on 25 March 2026.
Senior Police Constable (PC) Joel Saumanu from the National Crime Prevention Department of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) said every citizen plays an important role to maintain peace.
PC Saumanu said chiefs, religious leaders, community leaders, women leaders, youth leaders, and everyone play an important role to enhance peace and keep our communities safe for us.
Police Officer Saumanu said we are one people, one nation. Let us stand together in unity and protect our community from destruction. Together we can overcome challenges.
He said during the awareness program, let us allow our mandatory leaders to deal with the current political situation at their level. We give them the power with our votes, so let them do their mandated business on the political level.
Mr. Saumanu said the RSIPF is a neutral organization, and as police officers, we take our oath of office to perform our duties without favor when we are in situations like this. We must respect and obey the law and protect our community.
Police high visibility is part of the current operation happening at the moment to give reassurance to our communities despite the political instability.
The presence of police in our capital serves not only to maintain order but also to foster trust and cooperation among people. By upholding their commitment to impartiality and safety, the RSIPF aims to reassure citizens that their well-being remains a priority during challenging times.
Traffic police also form part of the operation to oversee the traffic issues in the capital, Honiara, and other parts of Guadalcanal. This collaborative approach helps to ensure smoother transportation while allowing officers to engage with the community.
