Police arrest suspect following alleged attempted murder incident in Honiara

Naha police have arrested a 38-year-old male suspect in connection with an alleged attempted murder incident at Miles Stone, Jacobs Ladder, in East Honiara.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Sunday, 16 August 2026, when the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife in his back.

According to initial information, a group of youths, including the suspect and a 33-year-old male victim, were consuming liquor when an altercation reportedly broke out.

The victim was immediately transported to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) for medical treatment and remains in critical condition due to the seriousness of the injury sustained.

Police have arrested the suspect and are continuing investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Police will seek a remand warrant for the suspect while investigations are ongoing.

Police are reminding members of the public that excessive consumption of liquor can contribute to violent incidents and are urging everyone to act responsibly and avoid behaviour that may lead to violence.

The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Naha is also calling on both parties and their supporters to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to allow police to conduct a full and proper investigation into the matter.

Police further urge anyone with relevant information about the incident to cooperate with investigators.
