Police investigate a dead body of a male person found along the beach of Bamoi village in Temotu

Lata police are investigating a dead body of an adult male person in his 30s that has been found along the beach of Bamoi village at Santa Cruz Island in Temotu Province on 12 September 2026.

The deceased has been identified as Mathew Mayio of the Vanikoro Islands, who married Elizabeth Penieli, a teacher at Nila Primary School.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Temotu Province Inspector Walter Leleina said the cause of death has not yet been determined and the matter is being treated as a suspected murder still under investigation.

“I appeal to the people of Santa Cruz Island, more especially those at Bamoi village, to assist police with information on this incident to bring those who are involved before the court,” said Inspector Leleina.

PPC Leleina shares his condolences on behalf of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) to friends and immediate family members of the late Mayio for the loss of their loved one.
