A total of 25 officers train on less lethal capability elevation program

A total of 25 officers from the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) and Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) will undertake intensive training on less lethal capability elevation Program 1/2026 at Rove police headquarters.

The program which started today (30th September 2026) brings together sixteen Emergency Respond Group (ERG) of CSSI and nine Central Respond Unit (CRU) of RSIPF from Honiara City Police.

The training program which is designed to enhance less-lethal operational capability, professional judgement, and operational readiness will run from 30 September to 28 October 2026.

The intensive training program started after a 24-hour assessment entry program conducted on 22 September 2026 at Rove police headquarters.

Less lethal capabilities are an important component of modern policing. They exist to support safer operational outcomes, reduce the likelihood of serious injury, and provide officers with additional options when managing challenging situations.

During the official opening of the training program, Acting Commissioner RSIPF Mr. James Aitorea says today, we recognise officers who have demonstrated the commitment, resilience, professionalism, and determination required to reach this stage.

“Today marks an important milestone in the continued strengthening of Police Support Unit operational capability within the RSIF and CSSI. This programme represents much more than a training course,” says Acting Commissioner Aitorea.

Mr Aitorea says each of you has been identified as an officer capable of assuming greater operational responsibilities and contributing to the continued growth and effectiveness of the Police Support Unit.

He says the purpose of this programme is clear.

It is designed to strengthen less lethal operational capability within the RSIPF and CSSI and to develop officers who can exercise sound judgement, discipline, professionalism, and restraint in demanding operational circumstances.

“I encourage each of you to embrace every learning opportunity presented during this programme. Be open to constructive feedback, challenge yourselves to improve, and strive for excellence in all aspects of your training,” says the police chief.
