A male, 66 year old has been arrested this date for possession of child exploitation material. The investigation by the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF), Sexual Assault Unit remains ongoing and other charges are being considered. This investigation commenced as a result of information supplied to police by a member of the community.
Legislative amendments enacted earlier this year details offences with severe penalties for making, possession, and or distribution of child exploitation material.
The Commissioner of Police, RSIPF, Mr. Frank Prendergast wants to reassure the people of Solomon Islands that police will pursue any reports of child exploitation in the community. This recent investigation highlights the efforts of police to deal with such allegations.
