Kukum traffic step up its operation for this Christmas

Traffic officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force will be conducting traffic checks during this Christmas season at different locations in town and parts of Guadalcanal jurisdiction.

The check will be conducted for unlicensed vehicles, driver licences, third party documents and Random Breathalyser Testing (RBT).

Director Kukum Traffic, Inspector Charles Habatia said, “The total number of RBT cases from 3rd July to second week of December 2016 was at 165, most of which have already been to court and others are still waiting for their hearings”.

He said, “Since RBT was introduced, the number of people caught has not reduced, it has actually increased. This is because drivers are still being irresponsible.”

Inspector Habatia said, “We do not want accidents during Christmas, it is our responsibility as drivers, road users and vehicle owners to be cautious and be responsible, so everyone can celebrate Christmas with their families”.

He further stated, “If you want to drink - don’t drive, and if you drive - don’t drink.

Mr. Habatia said, “Always remember you are not alone using the roads, there are also others using the same road that you travel, so you must drive considering others and be careful in your driving.”

He advises drivers, “Ensure you have a good rest before driving and do not overload your vehicles with passengers and cargo.”

“I remind the public that the Christmas operation is now on, so I appeal to the public to cooperate with police during this festive season.”

It is also important that owners of vehicles held at Kukum Police Station – attend to remove their vehicles”. Mr. Habatia said.
