RSIPF requires dedication and commitment - Inspector James Keith Teilo

“To reach the rank of inspector in the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is not an easy journey. It requires hard work and 24/7 commitment to your duties to serve your country,” according to Inspector James Keith Teilo, a senior investigator in the RSIPF’s National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara.

Inspector Teilo 48, from Nagolau Village in Isabel Province and part Temotu was recruited into the RSIPF in 2001.

“I wanted to become a police officer because I wanted to serve the community by providing a safe, secure and a peaceful environment. Without police, there will be no peace. Police has done so much to make sure people in the communities are safe in their daily lives. This is what motivated me to join the Force and what keeps me going as a police officer.”

After his graduation, Inspector Teilo spent two years on probation at the frontline performing general policing duties. At the end of his probation, he worked in various departments in the RSIPF including the Traffic and Prosecution departments before becoming a senior detective.

He also served as a Provincial Criminal Investigation Officer at the Auki Police Station in Malaita Province. He is currently the acting Deputy Director of the NCID.

“Challenges is a daily part of life as a police officer just like in other work places. It is tough as a leader looking after a team of officers with diverse cultures, backgrounds and behaviours but at the end of the day getting the work done and working together with officers working under your command is what matters,” says Inspector Teilo.

“But as Christians we all know that our God is faithful to us when we face challenges. Any job opportunity is a blessing. We need to put God first in our work. Our job is to serve our people, community and our country as a whole.”

Inspector Teilo continues, “I believe that if we work hard we can always achieve what we aim to do as a disciplined force. We have to display integrity at all times and be a role model to other officers especially our young officers who will be the upcoming leaders of the RSIPF organization.”

Inspector Teilo attained his secondary education at the Kamaosi Provincial Secondary School in Isabel Province and Honiara High School. He has done preliminary and foundation courses at the University of the South Pacific Solomon Islands Centre.
