The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) and New Zealand (NZ) Police strengthen policing partnership during Commissioner Mostyn Mangau visit to New Zealand late last year 2023.

The purpose of the visit is to further strengthen the Pacific Policing ties between the Solomon Islands and New Zealand Police to Support and the development of the RSIPF Crime Prevention, Community Policing and training across the Solomon Islands.

Other areas where the two policing partners discuss includes Leadership succession identification, management and potential support through the Pacific Police dog support programme.

During the visit RSIPF Commissioner visited the Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua and the Royal New Zealand Police dog training school in Upper Hutt Wellington.

Commissioner Mangau met with the Commissioner of the NZ Police Andrew Coster, members of the New Zealand Police International Assistance Programme and the Director of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police.

These meetings were beneficial to identify more opportunities to work collaboratively between our pacific policing partners.

The RSIPF two member team were hosted by the New Zealand Police and accompanied to New Zealand by NZ Police SIPSP (Solomon Islands Police Support Programme) Team Leader (TL) Inspector Warwick McKee.

TL SIPSP, Inspector Warwick McKee said, “The visit by RSIPF Commissioner and Chief of staff allowed us to continue to develop the successful partnership between NZ Police and the Solomon Islands Police.”

Inspector McKee said, “Some key strategic discussions were held and it was great to be able to host the Commissioner in New Zealand. NZ Police will continue to discuss opportunities to further support the RSIPF in Crime Prevention and reducing harm and victimisation in the Solomon Islands.”
