Auki police receive police operational equipment during official opening program of POM training in Malaita Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Auki Police Station have received new Toyota double cabin Hilux and police operational equipment during an official Public Order Management (POM) training opening in Auki on 18 January 2024.

The new Hilux and police operational equipment will be used during the two weeks long training program that officially opens on 18 January 2024 and will be distributed to officers in Malaita to do their duties.

The police operational equipment were donated by Peoples Republic of China (PRC) and handed over by China Police Liaison Team (CPLT).

The handing over has happened in the presence of the caretaker Premier of Malaita Province Mr. Martin Fini, RSIPF Assistant Commissioner Provincial, Mr. Leonard Tahnimana and Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province Superintendent Leslie Kili.

Guest of Honour, the caretaker Premier of Malaita Province Mr. Martin Fini in his speech said our friendship continues to grow deeper and stronger under the cordial diplomatic relations between our two countries, Solomon Islands (SI) and PRC.

Guest of Honour, Honourable Fini said this is shown today in the unveiling of another magnificent historic milestone in our friendship with the handover of a police vehicle and police operational equipment to the RSIPF in Malaita province.

“I am impressed to acknowledge your professional team for extending the ongoing support to improve the capacity and capability of RSIPF in Malaita province,” the Honourable caretaker Premier Mr. Fini said.

Team Leader (TL) China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) Commissioner Zhao Jinyong praised the RSIPF officers’ professionalism, discipline and dedication.

Commissioner Zhao said since the first batch of CPLT arrived in SI, the Police-to-Police Cooperation between China and SI has achieved fruitful outcomes based on mutual respect, mutual trust, mutual benefit and common development.

TL Commissioner Zhao said, “We will further strengthen the police cooperation through more collaboration and understanding. The CPLT had been working together with RSIPF during pacific games to ensure the green and safe Pacific Games 2023 (PG230).”

He said, “Our cooperation at PG23 is another embodiment of the cordial relations between our two police forces. The Second Ministerial Dialogue on Police Capacity Building and Cooperation between China and Pacific Island Countries was successfully hosted in Beijing on 8 December 2023, which achieved a success providing guidelines for future cooperation and improving cooperation mechanism. One of the outcomes during the Second Ministerial Dialogue is the unveiling of China-Pacific Island Countries Police Training Centre. We call it the second home of police for the island countries. It means more training opportunities, scholarships projects and that means more officers will have the chance to go to China either for short term training seminars or scholarships.

AC Provincial Mr. Tahnimana in his brief remarks during the opening said RSIPF as the leading law enforcement body of this country always ensures its officers are well equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to execute their mandated duties and responsibilities efficiently, professionally and with integrity.

Mr. Tahnimana said the RSIPF Executive through the leadership of the Commissioner of Police has always emphasized the importance that all officers must continuously train and up-skilled themselves with required level of POM skills. This is essential and necessary for them in order to effectively deal with public order issues that may arise within the province or any disorder within the country.

He said we have gathered here today to witness the official opening of this POM training. I am so very much pleased to see the excellent attendance of our officers who were nominated to attend this very important training, and I strongly believe that upon completion of this training you should be able, capable and ready to handle any disorder situation that may arise in the near future.

PPC Malaita Province, Superintendent Leslie Kili said the importance of the POM training could not be overstated. It is a crucial aspect of policing that requires a high level of skills, knowledge, and professionalism. The RSIPF Malaita is committed to ensuring the safety and security of our communities. This training program is an invaluable opportunity for our officers to enhance their skills in policing.

Superintendent Kili said we are particularly grateful to the CPLT team for unwavering support and dedication in facilitating this training. Your expertise and experience in POM training will undoubtedly have a profound impact on our officer’s capabilities.
